IRATY, the biggest beech forest in western Europe.

The Iraty forest is a nature lover's paradise, well worth a visit in all four seasons for fishing in the steams and high lakes, mushroom picking, cross country skiing and mountain walks and hiking to the pic des Escaliers (1472m) or the pic d'Hory (2107m) and the col d'Orgambidesca to watch the flights of birds migrating south in the autumn.

Cross-country skiing in the winter and fishing, hiking, tennis and mountain biking in the summer.

 
From St jean Pied de Port and St jean le Vieux head in the direction of the Col de Burdincurutcheta, well known to cyclotourists, and admire the Laurhibar valley and the Chapel St Sauveur.
